Jerusalem Syndrome... a fatal condition.
Are you at risk?
You may have heard of the Jerusalem Syndrome.
It is a psychiatric illness which affects previously sane and rational visitors to Israel.
Victims arrive in Jerusalem and begin to experience strange delusions and exhibit troubling behavior.
Some of them sincerely believe that they are the Messiah... or claim to be Jesus... or say they are a Prophet.
Nothing anyone can say will convince these poor deluded sufferers otherwise.
No rational argument or proof will shake their insane delusions and irrational views.
These unfortunate victims are sad figures, deserving pity and help (and a secure padded cell).
But that is old news...
What is new, is that recently scientists on the cutting edge of research into conditions like Jerusalem Syndrome have discovered an even more deadly variant of this illness.
They call it Knesset Syndrome... a debilitating and highly contagious condition triggered by otherwise sensible and reasonable people entering politics and achieving high office... especially at risk are those who manage to get elected into the Knesset...
with the risk of fatal infection rising to almost 100 per cent among those who reach the office of Prime Minister or President
of Israel.
These poor deluded 'leaders' undergo a terrible and apparently permanent change immediately after achieving high office and seats in Cabinet.
They no longer view the world rationally, as they did earlier.
Things they once held to be of fundamental importance become trivial and irrelevant.
What they understood yesterday to be an obvious matter of national security is today seen as an unwanted embarrassment to be ignored or repudiated.
The political platforms they were elected to office on are turned upside down and inside out.
Previous red lines become strangely invisible to sufferers of Knesset Syndrome.
Progressive blindness leaves victims unable to see what is blindingly obvious to any normal person.
Rose tinted glasses protect them from the harsh glare of reality.
As their hearing fails, victims become deaf to any reasonable discussion that disagrees with their delusions.
Having lost whatever sanity and reason they once had (which may not have been much, in some cases) victims
of Knesset Syndrome begin to ramble on about Peace... when everyone else can see that there is no peace...
And to talk crazily about a 'New Middle East'... when everyone else can see that there is no such thing...
As Knesset Syndrome enters its terminal phase, sufferers become more and more fanatical and determined to force their delusions on everyone else, without any regard for democracy or legal process.
Victims spend less and less time with their Jewish family... and more and more time on the phone to strangers
who claim to share the same 'vision' (mad delusion) as those with Knesset Syndrome.
It can only end in tears.
Some experts conclude that the only effective treatment for Knesset Syndrome is to remove and isolate the victims
in a comfortable place where they can be cared for and kept well away from any position of power...
Some suggest the most appropriate treatment would be to put these deluded fools on trial for treason
and lock them away in a prison cell... perhaps with a few of their Arab 'friends' who could help rehabilitate them
and break their delusions... If that were possible.
What is certain is that Israel needs to remove ALL those suffering from Knesset Syndrome as soon as possible...
by any means possible. It is a matter of national survival.
Perhaps the most ironic solution would be to use the space made available by freeing all those terrorists to incarcerate
Olmert and Peres and all the other Knesset Syndromers... and set up an emergency government to handle the present state of war.
Once Israel has finally defeated its enemies, maybe then those poor deluded 'leaders' could be released.
Maybe.
